HKSSPC 2024 – Sharing Session with Advisors was held on 30 April 2024 (Tue) in Hong Kong Science Museum. The Yuen Long Bypass Floodway Guided Eco-tour was successfully held on December 30 (Thursday) from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. A total of 15 students and 3 teachers joined the guided tour. Two guides from the Green Power led the participants to visit different sites and introduced DSD’s flood prevention works and the conservation of the river ecosystem, allowing them to gain a better understanding of the river ecology and biodiversity in Hong Kong.

Two sessions of the Experimental Design Workshops were held on 18 December (Sat) and 28 December (Tue) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm respectively at the Hong Kong Science Park. Participants learned the idea of experimental design from the workshop, they designed their own paper helicopters and conducted scientific experiments by changing different independent variables to find the answers. The Data Analysis Workshop was successfully held on 18 December (Sat) from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Hong Kong Science Park. The workshop introduced the basic knowledge, application and analysis skills of data to the participants. After the theoretical part, participants used Microsoft Excel to practice, analyze and integrate the data and present it in the form of graphs which will be useful in result presentation and explanation. The Sharing Session with Advisors was held on 29 April (Thur) online via Zoom, a total of 19 schools and 91 teachers and students had joined the event. The organizers had invited 10 advisors from different universities and institutes to share with the participants their science knowledge and experience on scientific research, as well as answer any queries the teams had in their projects. Participants actively participated in the sharing by sharing their project progress, research direction and ideas, consult and listen to the professional advice from advisors, as well as learn and exchange mutually through the sharing of other teams. The Presentation Skills Workshop was held on 10 April (Sat) from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Conference Hall 04 – 07, Phase 2, Hong Kong Science Park. We invited Mr. Calvin Lam to be the instructor, to introduce the keys of presentation and speaking skills. Participants actively interact with the instructor and follow the guidelines to practice different skills. It is believed that all participants have learnt a lot from the workshop, we hope that students could apply what they learnt not only to the competition, but also to the daily life.

Two sessions of the Experimental Design Workshops were held on 3 April (Sat) and 5 April (Mon) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm respectively at the HKFYG Centre for Creative Science and Technology. The Final Judging of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2020 was successfully held online on 16 August (Sun), outstanding teams with their creative inventions and research results were awarded. The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2020 Experimental Training Workshops were successfully held in the Centre for Creative Science and Technology in the Hong Kong Science Park on 21 December 2019 and 4 January 2020. Participants could learn more about experimental design and have fun with science. They had shown high engagement and worked as little scientists, in these experimental workshops. The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2020 Presentation Skills Workshop was successfully held in Hong Kong Science Park on 21 December 2019. The organizers invited Ms. Olivia Tsang from The Department of Communication Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University to be the Guest Speaker, to talk about presentation skills. Participants learned different skills and applied in practice, showed enthusiasm and creativity. It is believed that all participants gained a lot from the workshop, we hope that students do not only apply the skills on competition, but also in daily life. From 5 to 9 August 2019, four winning teams, comprising 20 students and teachers, were sponsored to a Singapore exchange programme. They visited Nanyang Technological University, Hwa Chong Institution, ArtScience Museum, Singapore Science Museum and Canopy Walk etc. Students were also able to exchange ideas with local students in Hwa Chong.
