The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2021 sent 4 Champion teams to join the Asia Pacific Conference of Young Scientists (APCYS 2021) organized in Mexico by The National Network of Youth Activities in Science and Technology. The competition was held online from 19 to 25 September 2021. Hong Kong Teams competed with 86 teams from 21 countries/regions and they won 1 Gold Award and 2 Bronze Awards. The Hong Kong Student Science Competition 2022 has officially launched. We are recruiting teams now! The Theme of this year is “Inspiration from Living ‧ Innovation from Science“, and the sub-theme is “Sustainable Development“. HKSSPC 2022 Briefing Session was held online on 3 November (Wed). Apart from introducing the details of the competition, we had invited Prof. Ho Ho Pui from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to share the strategy in doing a great science research project, experienced supervisor and winning teams also shared their experience and takeaways in HKSSPC. The enrollment deadline of HKSSPC 2022 is 28 November (Sun) by 23:59. All participating teams MUST be nominated by schools, interested schools please register a teacher account at https://ce1.hkfyg.org.hk and enroll teams at the enrollment system. Each teacher account could enroll up to 5 teams. Please check the enrollment system user guide below for more details.  If you encounter any technical problem when logging in the system for the enrollment, please fill in the form here and send it to sspc@hkfyg.org.hk before the enrollment deadline. 

The Data Analysis Workshop was successfully held on 18 December (Sat) from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Hong Kong Science Park. The workshop introduced the basic knowledge, application and analysis skills of data to the participants. After the theoretical part, participants used Microsoft Excel to practice, analyze and integrate the data and present it in the form of graphs which will be useful in result presentation and explanation. Two sessions of the Experimental Design Workshops were held on 18 December (Sat) and 28 December (Tue) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm respectively at the Hong Kong Science Park. Participants learned the idea of experimental design from the workshop, they designed their own paper helicopters and conducted scientific experiments by changing different independent variables to find the answers. It is believed that the workshops could allow the participants to realize the importance of experiments in scientific research, learn more about the steps and techniques of experimental design, as well as actively apply in science development in the future. The Design Thinking Workshop was held on 28 December (Tue) from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at Conference Hall 01 – 02, Phase I, Hong Kong Science Park. During the workshop, participants actively engaged in different sessions, including the group interaction, user experience, users interview for feedback, idea brainstorming, and put themselves into the set scenes, thought from the users’ actual needs, unleash their creativity to work out innovative solutions towards the problems. The Yuen Long Bypass Floodway Guided Eco-tour was successfully held on December 30 (Thursday) from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. A total of 15 students and 3 teachers joined the guided tour. Two guides from the Green Power led the participants to visit different sites and introduced DSD’s flood prevention works and the conservation of the river ecosystem, allowing them to gain a better understanding of the river ecology and biodiversity in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2021 has nominated 10 winning teams to join the Korea Science and Engineering Fair 2021 virtually from 14 January to 16 January 2022. Hong Kong teams compete with 94 international teams from 11 countries/regions for the grand prizes, and they all achieved great results from the competition.
