Singapore Exchange Tour (5-9/8/2019)

I am fully astonished by the large campus of Hwa Chong Institution, the large variety of equipments they have in their science laboratories, and the fact that many students can complete complicated projects every year. It is definitely not an easy task to finish a project every year, not to mention to do it individually with such high quality. I am also envious that students can attend courses which they have not chosen as an elective, which they can learn more comprehensively. Realizing that junior form students are researching on complex stuff that I as a senior, haven’t even heard of, I hope I could be given more opportunities to discover the unknown world in the future.

When I chatted with the local students at Hwa Chong Institution, I was amazed by how frequent they have to do projects in every subject, and that projects are a compulsory part of their curriculum. I was also fascinated by the laboratory equipments, as they were similar to the ones that universities have in Hong Kong. I think that the project presentation session was the most impression one, as the local students showed their well-presented and eye-opening projects to us. I think that this exchange can allow both sides to learn more about the learning systems of different places as well as the daily lives and routines of each other.

The education system of Singapore is very comprehensive. In Hwa Chong Institution, students are welcome to join different project including Art, Science and so on. Rich resources are provided to students, it is surprising that the equipment and the size of the laboratory are as large as the universities in Hong Kong. Students are passionate in joining the science projects, they have more opportunities to learn more about technology and improve lives by investigating different ideas. The visit to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) provided us the opportunity to learn and see the procedure of fractional distillation and the procedure of making concrete. Despite short duration of the visit, it is quite interesting to check about the air quality by ourselves with their equipment. Furthermore, the study environment of NTU is comfortable and relaxing, and I am surprised by the wide usage of science and technology in Singapore.
